The life cycle of the Cheese Factory for 2024 has begun!

We are at the end of the first month of the year, and for Menoikio it is a very important moment, as January marks the beginning of the dairy cycle!

Every January, together with the start of the calendar year, together with the start of the year, the cycle of dairy and cheese-making activity begins. It is the period when the births of our animals begin, the first cheese-making of the year, and at the same time the sowing of winter cereals in the plain of Prosotzani is completed.

This is a traditionally difficult period for all farmers. The birth process brings increased obligations and responsibilities, and, combined with the cold and bad weather, makes daily life difficult in a job that is already very demanding on a 24-hour basis and is not known for its working hours, weekends and public holidays.


This January the weather seems to be on our side, as the month has so far been warmer than traditional, with very few days of real bad weather, which has benefited all activity both on our farm and for the local farmers! The calving process has gone more easily and smoothly, minimising pressure and stress for our animals, whilst also making everyday life easier for all farmers.

Having left a difficult and stressful year for everyone, we hope this start bodes well for the whole of 2024! We wish a smooth start to cheese making and a successful year to all our fellow farmers and cheesemakers!
