Our entry was crowned the winner of the World Cheese Awards, held in Oviedo, Spain on Wednesday, November 3rd. Standing out among thousands of products that participated and were judged at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos of the city, Organic Feta impressed us with some of the world's top connoisseurs, winning the Super Gold award! This is the highest distinction offered by the competition, but also the only Super Gold award of all the Greek cheeses that participated.
While more nations were represented than ever at the World Cheese Awards 2021, Menoikio received an internationally recognized seal of approval from a truly world-class cheese event, which returned to Spain this year to be part of the Asturias Paraíso Natural International Cheese Festival.
The 33rd edition ofthe World Cheese Awards was bigger and more international than ever, including over 4,000 first-time entries. The competing cheeses represent 45 different countries, including emerging entries such as India, Guatemala, Japan and Colombia, as well as countries with established cheesemakers such as France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
All entries were judged in one day, as 250 connoisseurs from 38 different countries examined the appearance, composition, aroma and taste of the cheeses. The Bronze, Silver, Gold and Super Gold awards were presented during the morning critical evaluation, before the Super Gold was reviewed to find this year's top 16. Then, the international Final Jury, which includes the most important players of the global cheese community, discussed the best cheeses on the planet in front of a live audience, before deciding which product will be crowned World Champion. We want to give warm congratulations to our colleagues Quesos y Besos from Guarromán, Spain, whose Olavidia cheese was crowned World Champion in the Competition!
